I know that this is a few weeks late but I just realized that it's my first year blogiversary!!! I've been blogging for an entire year now and there have been quite a few changes along the way. Thank you to everyone who has supported my experimenting- those of you who have given me advice and feedback on my website/work, helped me at markets, and helped shape Amm's Art into what it is today. None of this could have been possible without all the guidance, love, and support.
I'm in a happy and positive mood right now and, as a token of my appreciation, I'd like to do a little giveaway- this is the first one on my blog- yay!
The first items I'd like to give away are a set of 3 wood burnt spoons that have henna inspired designs burnt into them. These are usable since the designs have been burnt into the and wood they won't wash off. The spoons that you get will look something like these:
Next, I have a hand painted wooden sign with a metal hanging chain attached to it. There is a little bit of space on this (above the leaf) for me to add a word or name if the winner likes.
And the final item to give away is an original acrylic henna inspired painting.
In order to enter in the draw for the giveaway please leave me a comment below. You can enter from anywhere in the world and I will leave the give away open for two weeks- so that's until Midnight on Monday Sept 7th [12:00 am Mountain Standard Time (MST)]. The winners will be chosen at random and announced on the following Saturday.

What: East Village Street Fair

Amm's Art will be at the East Village Street Fair on Canada Day! Come down and get some henna'd merchandise or get a temporary henna tattoo done. I'll be on the corner of 8th ave & 5th street SE.
I was at the YWCA last week doing henna for some lovely ladies. It was really amazing seeing how something as simple as henna can bring so many people together.
Here's a sample of the hands that I did.
A wonderful lady named Dianne also shared her cancer story with all of us while she had her head shaved and then henna'd. She requested not to have any pictures of her posted online, so I am honoring that. The amazing grace and dignity she told her story with was so riveting/touching. She laughed and cracked jokes while she told us about how she went from being a professional working woman to becoming homeless and then finding out that she has stage three lung cancer.
I can honestly say I'm at a complete loss for words when trying to describe what I felt observing all of this. It wasn't a large event, it was an intimate gathering of a few ladies at the YWCA with whom she wished to speak openly about her challenges. Dianne was inspiring to say the least. Her journey, and the way she spoke about it, really made me take a few moments to reflect and I realized how easily I sometimes let small things in life drag me down- yet here was a beautiful woman who has been through so much and she's still smiling and not feeling sorry for herself. There's a lot to be learnt from moments like these and I thank Dianne for sharing her struggles and stories so candidly, and wish her the best of luck with her treatments and recovery.

I launched my first market table for Amm's Art yesterday at East Village for the Fall for East Village Event. It was an extremely LONG day, I loaded up my car the night before the event and headed out the door at about 7:15 am the following day. By the Time I was back home and my car was unloaded it was almost 8pm (everything is still sitting on my floor and it needs to be put away). Not to mention the time that I spent running around all week to Rona and Home Depot to figure out just how I was going to set my booth up. I feel that presentation is very important for drawing people in to your booth and I wanted my display to work with the theme of my products without overpowering the products themselves.
There were definitely a lot of lessons learnt from this event. I'm going to highlight a few of the major ones:
