Instagram post 2160488079039436593_8385130866 This was the very first mosque painting that I did a few years ago. It’s is the Blue Mosque or Sultan Ahmed Mosque in Istanbul Turkey. This painting kicked off the rest of my Mosque Series and it lives down in LA now.

Instagram post 2066972075748129543_8385130866 Being busy is something that is so glorified these days. Whenever I ask anyone how they’ve been the most common answer that I’m hearing is ‘busy’. That’s (unfortunately) typically my response as well. I understand the desire to hustle harder but we also very much NEED to slow down, find time for our own personal growth and development, reflect, nourish our minds bodies and our souls. It’s all about finding and then learning how to maintain balance. Something I’ve been consciously working on this year. It’s been tough, but it’s a step in the right direction.

Instagram post 2051739562855434986_8385130866 This is another mixed media canvas that was created by up-cycling an old painting. You can see some circular ‘windows’ around the work which ‘peek’ into the old painting. I took inspiration for the colors on this piece from the original piece underneath. This is a really great way to give new life to something that you may have grown out of or maybe didn’t like in the first place.

Instagram post 2048807748377664544_8385130866 Sun and moon, this picture goes along with the doodle of the sun from a few posts ago. We watch the sun in a daily basis to know when its time to open our fast and the we watch the moon because our months follow the lunar calendar.

Instagram post 2048174842474963576_8385130866 Follow the light.
This canvas is a representation of some of the demons and struggles that we all face. With the raincloud being a symbol for dark times, and the rain coming in the form of blessings such as lessons learnt, finding out who’s really there for you and growing as a person. I firmly believe that no matter what, there’s always SO much to be grateful for. That silver lining can sometimes be hard to see through all the chaos of emotions, depression, feeling unworthy, and the mountains of inevitable anxiety. It’s been important for me to have a guiding light (lighthouse) or North Star to help pull me out. For me my North Star is my faith, practicing gratitude, connecting with others, working through the pain, taking care of myself, and most definitely my creativity. Making things with my hands is the one thing that I can do for hours on end where I can forget about all of my worries because the only thing I care about at that time is what’s in front of me and the present moment. Not to sound dramatic but I can honestly say that having a creative outlet has saved me from some of the darkest moments in my life.
What is your North Star? What do you do to escape from or work through life when it gets rough? It’s so important to have that something. As a final note I’d like to send out lots of love and support to anyone struggling with anything right now. I honour your struggle and I want you to know that you’re not alone
